Idris Elba Reveals the Hardest Role Ever Played

The British actor has an interesting take on his career and his titles.

Idris Elba is one of the stars of the moment. The British actor has just released Luther’s sequel film The Fallen Sun on Netflix, continuing the story of the famous BBC detective. Furthermore, he is one of the fans’ favorites to become the new James Bond, even when he seems not to be very interested in it.

However, despite his long and successful career, there is one role that he still struggles to assume. Speaking to ET Canada (via People), Elba revealed that the title of sexiest man alive is one of the most difficult things he has gone through in his career, as he was very insecure about doing the photo shoot. Fortunately, the team behind the photos knew exactly how to help you:

“I said to the photographer, ‘I don’t always photograph great in pictures, this picture needs to be great. They’re like ‘No, no, no. We’ve done this a million times, we know how to do it.’ And I was like, ‘Ok, I’ll just be me.’ Then they do this sort of thing where they make your favorite camera angle work for the cover.”

Idris won the Sexiest Man Alive award in 2018, the year he starred in Avengers: Infinity War as Heimdall. Right now, the title belongs to another Marvel Studios’ star, Chris Evans, who won it last year.

Idris Elba in Luther: The Fallen Sun

John Luther is a detective who works for the Serious Crimes Unit in the first season and in the Serial Crimes Unit. Luther lives dedicated to his work and is endowed with great capacity, however, he is sometimes obsessive and dangerous when he lets himself be carried away by his fixations. He has never been able to avoid being sucked into the darkness of the crimes he faces. For Luther, work always comes first, so he has paid a heavy price for his dedication, which is both a blessing and a curse to him and the people around him.

Four years after the end of the show, the movie follows a serial killer who terrorizes London while disgraced detective John Luther remains behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cybernetic psychopath who is now taunting him, Luther decides to break out of jail.

Luther: The Fallen Sun is directed by Emmy nominee Jamie Payne from a script written by series creator Neil Cross. Joining Elba are new cast members Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Jess Liaudin, with Dermot Crowley also reprising his role as Martin Schenk.
